A buddy of mine told me... You see two old guys get into their boat and head out fishing. They've been fishing together for 20 years and you think to yourself, "I would like to have a fishing buddy for 20 years." The odd thing is, you don't set out to choose a friend like that, it's after going out year after year, and fishing together for 20 years that you find you have a friend like that.
Yesterday we achieved another dream, we attended our RV park Christmas party in the clubhouse. It was awesome. People are interesting everywhere I go. Santa came and I sat on his lap and he asked me if I wanted a new unit for Christmas. That's RV humor, folks. There was plenty of food and friendly people. I got to meet my neighbors and the park owners, and share stories of pipes freezing along with Christmas treats.
In the evening we slipped over to one of my "fishing buddies" homes for the annual Christmas party and sing-a-long. In some sort of weird alternate universe I have spent many years going to an awesome Christmas party hosted by my Jewish friend Larry King and his wife Shawn. We eat and sit around singing Christmas songs. Larry MC's the evening's entertainment which is culled from the guests. He is super funny, seriously. He has some real comedy chops that you don't see on his CNN show. Many talented friends come to this party and do a little something, it really is a Christmas blessing for me. An intimate concert with some super talented people. It's nice.
I appreciate that my life has a broad scope and can include a wide variety of experience, sometimes within a single day. I appreciate my "fishing buddies", who not through any grand design but through spending time with them over and over through the years have brought me great friendship. I appreciate all my friends, old and new. One of the real benefits of this American road trip has been the people.
Hope your holidays are peaceful and joyful.
Save a can of WD-40 for me.
